GridNets 2007 Industry Track

Bela Berde

Alcatel-Lucent France, Research & Innovation

Theme and Motivation

Large-scale Grid infrastructures running at the production level consist of geographically dispersed end system resources - for data and computation etc. - interconnected, for the most part, by wide-area networks. European and worldwide industrial research effort, industry forums, and industrial initiatives witness to that at the crossroads of Telecom industry, Internet, and Media technology realms, an industry-driven vision for large-scale Grid services and infrastructures is increasingly emerging.

Based on the past success of Grid concepts ranging from the resource operational community up to application developers, solutions to large-scale Grid infrastructure - designed or suitable for commercial operational use - can be built in many different ways, used on many different resources, and operate over many different networks. In conjunction with the research community, the industrial research effort typically pursues various innovation paths in both Grid and networking technology.

Scope

Targeting multiple-organizational, and heterogeneous Grid infrastructures, the Industry Track session will discuss the:

  • industrial research and innovation aspects
  • technology transition to a commercial infrastructure vision
  • production test-beds
  • link to academia research in Grid
  • competitive Grid business aspects and realities
in collaborating end system resources with advanced production level networking within a Grid environment as well as some of the solutions implemented today with the attempt to solve them.

Goal

The goal of the GridNets 2007 Industry Track is to foster the communication between and integration of innovation paths from both the research community and the industrial and commercial players. It further allows capitalizing on opportunities that arise in putting them as new Grid applications, services, and infrastructures with clear industrial and Business perspectives on a robust, flexible, and efficient basis for the foreseeable future.
